Hello, I'm Lynn!

Malaysian-born, Brisbane-based, food-loving, Tolkien-obsessed, mum to 2 young boys, podiatrist, and the face behind Treats by Lynn!

Origins

Treats by Lynn started as a baking fundraiser for the Mental Awareness Foundation's Walk for Awareness in 2017. It'd been a rough year trying to cope with depression and anxiety but one of the things that brought me joy and really helped my mental health was baking. I'd always had a passion for treats with fond childhood memories of baking with my mother, so I began experimenting and teaching myself cake decorating.

Journey

And thus began a dream to turn this hobby into something more. I wanted to use these God-given skills to serve my church & community, but I couldn't legally do that without a food licence. It wasn't easy, and many in the business told me it would be highly improbable with my situation back then. But thankfully, when God has plans for you, NOTHING can stop them! At Citipointe's SWB 2019 conference, God spoke to me through Ps Kim Jones, saying "Go start that cupcake business!" (literally word for word!). 3 weeks later my business plans had been approved by Brisbane City Council, and so began the kitchen renovations & business launch prep! By Jan 2020, I received my food licence, and on 2nd Feb 2020, I officially launched Treats by Lynn.

Missions

  1. I believe that food should taste as good as it looks (especially desserts). I know firsthand how disappointing it is when that doesn't happen hence why I focus so much on balancing flavour and texture.
  2. I believe in spreading love & joy. My treats will put a smile on someone's face, light up their heart, and feel like a big warm hug for their insides!
  3. I believe in helping time-poor mums get their cake and eat it too! Don't struggle trying to bake and decorate treats by yourself - that's what I'm here for! Save yourself the time and effort (and possibly tears), and go do something for your family or, better yet, YOURSELF instead!
  4. I believe in giving back to God & the community. I have regular fundraising events where a portion of my sales get donated to charitable organisations such as It's Not OK Projects & Community Cares Brisbane. I'm also a huge believer of mums supporting mums, and I'm an advocate for mental health especially in relation to motherhood given my history of PND/A plus general depression/anxiety.
